Continuously reducing our district heating emissions
At Tampereen Energia, we produce our district heating locally, mainly at our Naistenlahti and Lielahti power plants, using combined heat and power production. Thanks to cogeneration, up to 90% of the energy contained in the fuel can be utilized as electricity and heat. This saves, on average, a third of the energy compared to producing heat and electricity individually. It also reduces emissions by the same proportion.
We only use renewable electricity in the production of district cooling. Therefore, we can safely say that district cooling in Tampere is completely emission-free.
